lower a string in sqlite doesn't lower special characters

I have a field called

'ÉLISABETH'

When lower this in SQLite then I get the result :

select lower(myfield) from table;

'Élisabeth'

There is still the É which is not lowered.

Why doesn't it behave as expected and any hints for a solution ?
