Ios application data protection

Developing an iOS (iPad) application to capture data from a user for an insurance survey and store the same into sqlite before sync to Amazon RDS MySQL.

My questions are as follows:

1. how to secure the data on the sqllite ?


2. how to safely communicate to back end server while syncing data?


3. is there any best practice and standards for encryption and data transmission on with respect to the above?

Kindly help me on this and direct me to proper resources. I would really appreciate your help.
