Excel file as database for android app.

I have data stored in excel sheets. I want to develop an android app which searches,for something which the user enters, in this database. Going by the tutorials available online i will have to manually add the entries in the Sqlite Database. Can i directly use this spreadsheet (excel file) as a data base and operate the search query.
