How to copy sms form an sqlite database to the phone's sms inbox in android?

I am to create an android app that programmatically copies sms messages from an own SQLite database to the phone's default database and checks for duplicates. Any idea how can this be done? Please note my target version is Lollipop (Android 5+). If not possible, Jelly Bean (Android 4.3) can also be an option. Thank you in advance for your help
