db file deleted but records still show up on rails app

I accidentally deleted my development.sqlite3 db file. This is the same file that my Rails app uses to display the records on the webpage. After deleting it I checked my webpage and all my records were still there. I restarted the the server and still all my records were being displayed on the webpage. My question is why are my records still displayed on my webpage when the file it should be pulling them from has been deleted.
