How to create an updateable -phonegap application- database?

So I am new to this and there is some things which i cant warp my head around.

1st: I already created a local database using sql lite,transaction and executeSql functions, and I am able to insert,delete, and, manipulate the data.

Now I want to be able to update the database, so i need to know:

-what kind of configuration and work is needed on the server side?

-what is the concept of relating the two databases to each other ?

-And how it's applied to the client side ?

-Is there is any other way to do so? (other than sync tow databases), and if so what it is ?!
