What is the relationship between .dbi and .sqlite files?

I'm new in the DataBase business and I'm trying to learn as much as possible. As far as I understood, a file database.sqlite is a database that can be accessed through SQL commands.

But what about the database.dbi file ? What is the link between them ? What is it used for ?
