Should i close sqlite db when i launch another activity using intent?

Can my db just stay somewhere open and accessible when i switch between activities? I will need to update some parameters like player's score after i launch 2nd activity where my game runs.

Or should I\need I to reopen it again for some purpose? I suspect the sqlite db can stay open and float somewhere in background.
