Trying to use DB browser for SQLite

I'm trying to create a database for my app using the DB Browser for SQLite. When running an emulator, I can go into /data/data//databases/ and place the database file there to use. However, when I try to use it against my LG G4, the directory won't let me view the contents of the /data/ directory. The current permissions for this file are drwxrwx--x. I viewed directories with fewer permissions just fine, so I don't think it's a permissions issue. I tried creating a directory in /data/ called 'data', but it gives an error saying that that directory already exists. Have any of you faced a similar problem?
