how to create an android app which when entering results gives me a list of courses eligible at the university?

I am new to android application development. I wanted to how to create an android application which when i enter some points(edittext),it will give me a list of courses that am eligible for at the university(textview). I wanted to know whether it is possible to achieve this using database. I have no idea at all of how to do this. Help me..
