Changing sqlite3 timestamp to mathplotlib plot_date timestamp python

I'm trying to convert this timestamp: YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS, which is returned as a string from the sqlite3 database, to a plot_date-timestamp (matplotlib), how would I go about that in python 3?
